On April 11th, according to the disclosure of Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Berkshire Hathaway sold 2.4805 million shares of BYD on March 31st, with an average sale price of HKD 217.67 per share, totaling about HKD 540 million. The stake decreased to 10.90%, down from 11.13% before.
On September 29th, 2008, Berkshire Hathaway invested USD 230 million to subscribe for 225 million shares of BYD at a price of HKD 8 per share in the Hong Kong stock market. On August 24th, 2022, Buffett, who had held the shares for 14 years, reduced his stake in BYD for the first time. Since then, Berkshire Hathaway has reduced its holdings in BYD several times.
In December last year, Li Ke, Executive Vice President of BYD, said that although Berkshire Hathaway sold over 1/5 of its stake in the company in 2022, its founder and “stock god” Warren Buffett still has great faith in the future of BYD and will never give up on it.
In March 2023, BYD sold 207,080 new energy vehicles, with a cumulative sales volume of 552,076 vehicles this year, a year-on-year increase of 92.81%. Among them, the Dynasty brand under BYD sold 147,443 vehicles, the Ocean brand sold 48,248 vehicles, and the DENZA brand sold 10,398 vehicles.
In March 2023, BYD sold a total of 13,312 new energy passenger vehicles overseas. The total installed capacity of new energy vehicle power batteries and energy storage batteries in March was approximately 9.891 GWh, and the cumulative installed capacity in 2023 is about 26.991 GWh.
In 2022, BYD’s net profit was CNY 16.622 billion, a year-on-year increase of 445.86%. The company produced 1,881,669 new cars and sold 1,802,464 vehicles throughout the year, an increase of 151.71% and 149.88%, respectively.
