On April 7th, it was announced that BYD, in partnership with local collaborator GS, recently held a T4K launch ceremony for a pure electric 1-ton light truck model.
In Korea, 1-ton trucks are known as “special vehicles for small business owners” and the national inventory is about 2.3 million, with about 200,000 new vehicles replaced each year. The South Korean government has launched many policies to support the development of environmentally friendly vehicles, including electric trucks. For buyers, the national and local governments of Korea will provide subsidies. Furthermore, South Korea has announced that from 2023, the use of diesel vehicles for 1-ton fast delivery vehicles will be completely banned. The South Korean T4K truck will be equipped with an 82kWh blade battery, which can travel 246 kilometers (152.86 miles) on a single charge. GS and BYD will work with Kakao Mobility to sell the T4K truck through the KakaoT app, supporting the use of T Map navigation. The unsubsidized price is 46.69 million Korean won ($41,400). If both national and local government subsidies apply, the purchase price in some places could be as low as 19 million Korean won ($16,872).
BYD stated that as of March this year, it has deployed 301 electric buses to the Korean market, with a cumulative operating mileage of more than 25 million kilometers (15,534.28 million miles).
