On May 13th, Motor1, an automotive media outlet, released the global sales ranking of pure electric vehicles for 2022. Two best-selling Tesla cars made the list, while Chinese brands dominated with 7 spots.
Here’s the specific ranking. The first and second spots both belong to Tesla, with the Model Y and Model 3, respectively. Their annual sales volumes are 747,500 and 482,200 units, with year-on-year growth rates of 91% and -3% compared to 2021.
It is worth mentioning that 44% of Model Y’s sales come from China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan markets), while sales in the United States and Canada account for 34%. Model 3’s sales in China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan markets) accounted for 28%.
The third to fifth places are all from Chinese brands. Wuling Hongguang MINIEV sold 443,400 units, close to Tesla Model 3; BYD Dolphin reached 205,200 units, an increase of 916% compared to the previous year. There is also BYD Yuan PLUS, which is called ATTO 3 overseas and has been launched in multiple countries, with a total sales volume of 180,600 units.
The sixth place is Volkswagen ID.4, which sold 175,600 units globally last year, with 47% of sales from China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan markets) and 39% from Europe.
The seventh to tenth places are all from China, namely BYD Qin EV, sold 163,400 units; GAC Aion Y, sold 119,800 units; GAC Aion S, sold 117,000 units; BYD Han EV, sold 116,500 units.
