On May 10th, it was reported that with the continued increase in production at the Shanghai Gigafactory and the Fremont facility in California, as well as the ongoing increase in production at the Berlin and Texas Gigafactories after they began production, the production capacity of Tesla Model Y has significantly increased, with stronger delivery capabilities.
According to data from JATO Dynamics, a statistical agency, Model Y sold a total of 747,000 units globally last year, a year-on-year increase of 91%, making it the third highest-selling model.
From the agency’s data, the two cars with higher global sales than Tesla Model Y last year were both from Toyota, namely RAV4 and Corolla sedan. The former sold 1.016 million units last year, the only model to sell over one million units last year, while the latter sold 992,000 units. The sales of both models decreased by 10% compared to the previous year.
Considering that the Model Y is a best-selling model under the Tesla brand, with production continuously increasing, sales will also increase in the near future, and this year’s sales will be even higher. If last year’s year-on-year growth rate is maintained, sales will exceed one million this year.
The Model Y is also a model that Tesla has high hopes for. Elon Musk has previously stated that he believes the Model Y has the potential to become the world’s best-selling car. Although this goal was not achieved last year, sales increased by 91% year-on-year, ranking third globally, which is a huge improvement and brings it one step closer to becoming the best-selling model.
