On May 17th, Tesla held its annual shareholder meeting at the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. During the meeting, a new prototype of the Cybertruck electric pickup truck was unveiled, which is the closest version to production so far. Many people have uploaded videos of the vehicle online, showcasing some of its details.
This Cybertruck prototype looks more refined than before, equipped with patented black wheel covers, a giant single wiper, triangular side mirrors, and what appears to be new front and rear bumpers with integrated mud flaps. The light positions seem to be final, such as turn signals and headlights, which are cleverly hidden between the front of the car and the front bumper.
At a shareholder meeting, someone asked Elon Musk if it’s possible for Tesla to develop a Tesla RV, to which Musk answered that it’s possible in the future. However, Tesla has already designed many fixed points and other practical solutions in the Cybertruck’s cargo area for tying down items. In addition, the cargo area seems to be equipped with a fixed rail similar to the Rivian R1T pickup.
Furthermore, the components of the vehicle’s air suspension can be clearly seen from the side, confirming once again that Tesla’s pickup will use air springs. The door handles have also been repositioned above the door panel, near the side window.
However, not everything is perfect: the upper part of the tailgate is clearly misaligned, and the rear view is not great. The tailgate problem can be fixed (after all, this is just a prototype), but the visibility issue may not be solvable.
According to Musk, Tesla will deliver the Cybertruck electric pickup in the second half of this year, with an expected annual production of over 250,000 vehicles. In addition, Musk revealed that Tesla will also launch two new products in the future, with designs and manufacturing far exceeding any current products and technologies. It is expected that the total annual sales of these two new products will exceed 5 million vehicles.
