On June 7th, it was reported that Tesla seems to have resumed testing the updated Model 3, codenamed “Project Highland,” on public roads. Earlier this week, electric vehicle enthusiasts The Kilowatts spotted the test car in California and noted some new changes.
The front headlights of the new Model 3 are consistent with the previously exposed photos, adopting a more fashionable and dynamic design, which is significantly different from the existing Model 3. The taillights have also changed, with the turn signal shifting from horizontal to vertical. The rear bumper has also added a diffuser similar to Model S, X, and Y, which accelerates the low-pressure air under the car and guides it to the rear of the car, thereby increasing downforce at high speeds and improving handling. Therefore, it is possible that a new Model 3 model will be launched that focuses more on performance.
Aside from the visual changes, the new Model 3 will also feature the latest Hardware 4.0 (HW4) system, including upgraded cameras. The HW4 system has already been implemented in the Model S, X, and Y, providing higher levels of autonomous driving performance and safety.
“Project Highland” Model 3 was first revealed last fall. Tesla has been improving this car for nearly a year, and the release date for the new version is still unknown. We will keep an eye on it.
