On July 31st, a tech content creator discovered a modified Tesla Model 3 in Palo Alto, California and took photos. The project, code-named “Project Highland,” is an upgrade for the Model 3 sedan, mainly involving modifications to the front and rear bumpers.
We noticed that both the front and rear bumpers of this Model 3 are covered, suggesting that Tesla has made changes to these two parts, while the rest of the body remains unchanged. The most noticeable is the front bumper, which appears to be longer than the current model on sale, and has a camera at the tip of the car, similar to the Cybertruck. This indicates that the updated Model 3 has fully adapted to Tesla’s vision system and no longer requires ultrasound sensors, meaning that the new car is likely to be equipped with Tesla’s hardware 4.0.
It is expected that Tesla will soon start production of the updated Model 3. During Tesla’s Q2 2023 earnings conference call, executives stated that production in the third quarter may decline due to factory upgrades.
