Elon Musk: North American Tesla owners can try FSD for free for one month

On May 9th, according to media reports, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted that once the Full Self-Driving (FSD) system is both safe and super smooth, the company will offer a one-month free trial for all Tesla cars in North America. Musk added, “Once we’re convinced it’s great, we will expand FSD Beta to the rest of the world”.

So far, Tesla’s FSD software has been tested for more than two years. The company hopes to gradually approach Level 5 autonomous driving by improving the FSD beta software.

As the functionality of the FSD system continues to increase, Tesla has raised the price of the system several times. The latest increase was in early September 2022, when the company raised the price of the FSD system in North America from $12,000 to $15,000, a 25% increase.

At the end of last year, Tesla confirmed that more than 285,000 people in North America had purchased the FSD package, which means that the adoption rate of the FSD package is about 19%.

There are still many controversies surrounding the FSD system. Although it is called “Full Self-Driving”, it does not enable cars to drive themselves and requires the driver to remain fully attentive with their hands on the steering wheel and be ready to take control of the vehicle at any time.
