Recently, Guidehose Insights released a report ranking 16 well-known companies engaged in the development of autonomous driving technology.

The results show that Mobileye, Waymo, Baidu and Cruise are in the top four and are considered leaders in autonomous driving. They excel in both execution and strategy capabilities. Mobileye dominates the vision-based ADAS market; Waymo has a wealth of test data and experience; Baidu has a strong presence and partnership network in the Chinese market; and Cruise is supported by giants such as General Motors.

Motional (co-founded by Hyundai and Ampofo), Nvidia, Aurora Innovation, WeRide, Zoox, Gatik (a California-based startup), Nuro, and AutoX are rated as competitors who have strengths or potential in certain areas but need to further improve their competitiveness.

Autonomous A2Z (Korean self-driving startup), May Mobility (U.S. startup with Toyota investment), and Pony AI were ranked as challengers, with more room for improvement in scale or technology.

However, Tesla ranked at the bottom, with a score of only 28, and was the only follower in the list. The report notes that Tesla relies too heavily on its “Full Autopilot” software package and does not really have L4 level autonomous driving capabilities.
