After Tesla announced the technical details of the 4680 battery at the end of 2020, production of this type of battery began. Production initially started at the Kato Road facility near the Fremont factory in California, and later expanded to the Gigafactory Texas, where it was used in the all-wheel drive Model Y. Tesla has been selling this Model Y for over a year, and the technology of the 4680 battery is constantly improving.

According to Tesla’s estimates, 10 million battery cells are enough to produce approximately 12,000 Model Y vehicles. In addition to Texas, Tesla also hopes to continue to increase the production of the 4680 battery to meet the needs of other vehicle models that require this type of battery.

We noticed that Tesla has just leased a massive facility over 210,000 square feet in Fremont, California for the production of the 4680 battery, in order to put more cars with this breakthrough battery technology on the road. Last year, CEO Elon Musk said that the 4680 battery will be an “important” part of Tesla’s plans for 2023. It is clear that increasing the production of this battery and incorporating more 4680 battery packs into the company’s electric vehicles is a goal for the future.
