Tesla’s NACS charging standard could lead to a reshuffling of North American charging networks

On June 11th, it was reported that Tesla’s charging system has been praised for its simplicity, ease of use, and efficiency. Recently, more and more car manufacturers and charging equipment providers have announced their support for Tesla’s NACS charging standard, which is the standard that Tesla renamed its charging interface to in 2022. NACS is different from the CCS commonly used in Europe and Asia in that it has no moving parts, is smaller in size, and has higher power, providing drivers with a better charging experience.

Previously reported, well-known companies such as Ford, General Motors (GM), ABB E-mobility, etc. have decided to adopt the NACS standard in their electric vehicles and provide corresponding equipment in their charging networks. Recently, a professional charging hardware and software provider, EverCharge, also announced that it will fully support the NACS standard throughout its entire charging network. EverCharge stated in its blog that the CCS standard is not the best choice, as it is too cumbersome and its performance is not satisfactory. In comparison, Tesla’s NACS standard is superior.

Jason Appelbaum, founder and CEO of EverCharge, also expressed the same view on his LinkedIn page. He believes that the increasing popularity of the NACS standard means that the domino effect has begun, with more and more people realizing the superiority of the NACS standard. He stated that EverCharge is honored to support this shift and looks forward to more car manufacturers joining in.

The widespread adoption of Tesla’s NACS standard among US car manufacturers is a huge victory for Tesla. As more and more companies and organizations, such as Ford, General Motors, ABB E-mobility, and EverCharge, turn to the NACS standard, it may soon become the mainstream charging standard in North America.
