On April 18th, XPENG unveiled its first new car model under the Flamingo architecture, XPENG G6, at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show. The car is positioned as a pure electric mid-size SUV, offering two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options. Its comprehensive research and development cost is about half of the past architecture platform models, and the intelligent experience iteration cycle is shortened by 30%. According to previous reports, XPENG G6 is expected to be launched and delivered in the middle of this year, with an estimated price range of 200,000 to 300,000 yuan (30,000-45,000 US dollars).
On the exterior, XPENG has hired Liu Cixin as the forward-looking design consultant for the G6, which is designed with the concept of “technological fluid aesthetics” and has a rounded overall appearance. The LED light strip in the front of the car is designed to be disconnected, and the headlight and the laser radar below are integrated. It is reported that the G6 is equipped with 31 intelligent sensing hardware throughout the vehicle and provides 508 TOPS of computing power, which can support advanced assisted driving functions.
The XPENG G6 adopts a sleek design, with 17 low-drag designs such as hidden door handles and wheel rims, resulting in a drag coefficient of only 0.248. In terms of body size, the length, width, and height of the XPENG G6 are 4753/1920/1650 millimeters, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2890 millimeters and a 60.8% wheelbase ratio. It is worth mentioning that the car is also equipped with an adaptive lift wing that can automatically adjust the lifting height according to the speed.
The XPENG G6 has a completely new interior design style, with the entire center console incorporating a “vector star ring” design. The full LCD instrument panel size is 10.2 inches, while the center screen size is 14.96 inches, equipped with the Xmart OS 4.0 car system and full-scene four-tone zone voice function. In terms of configuration, the XPENG G6 is equipped with a windless smart air conditioning, panoramic sunroof, front seat heating/ventilation, and a mobile phone wireless charging panel, and supports the “XOpera Music Hall” function.
In terms of power, the XPENG G6 will provide two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, with a maximum power of 218 kilowatts and a peak torque of 440 Nm for the two-wheel drive version, and a comprehensive power of 358 kilowatts and a comprehensive torque of 660 Nm for the four-wheel drive version. The car will be matched with two specifications of battery packs, 66 kilowatt-hours of lithium iron phosphate and 87.5 kilowatt-hours of ternary lithium, and support 800V fast charging, but the battery life information has not been disclosed.
