The Volkswagen ID.2 all, priced at less than 25,000 euros, made its debut. The new car is positioned as a pure electric A-class hatchback and will be based on the Volkswagen MEB Entry front-wheel-drive platform.
Volkswagen stated that this car, which has a range of 450 km (WLTP), is an entry-level model that will be launched in Europe in 2025. This will be the first model on the Volkswagen MEB modular electric platform to use the front-wheel drive, and its design elements can be traced back to the first Golf.
“Spacious like the Golf, and as affordable as the Polo”, the ID.2 is slightly smaller in length and height than the current ID.3, but is similar in size to the Volkswagen Golf mentioned above. However, the ID.2 has many designs that are different from the eGolf, such as a more powerful power system.
The new car is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery and is available in 38 kWh and 56 kWh versions. It supports 125 kW fast charging and can charge from 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes, making it one of the fastest charging models in its class. The new car is also equipped with a front-mounted single motor (223bhp), with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 7 seconds and a top speed of 160 km/h.
The Volkswagen ID.2 all concept car is 4050×1812×1530mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2600mm. The new car adopts the latest design style and will be equipped with new driving assistance and IQ.LIGHT technology.
Thomas Schaefer, head of the Volkswagen brand, said in a statement, “We are gradually implementing the transformation to bring electric cars to Volkswagen.”
The automaker is also developing another electric car priced at less than 20,000 euros, but has not provided further details.
Overall, the new car design retains the classic elements of Volkswagen while looking more minimalist. It is equipped with hidden door handles, 20-inch wheels, and unique designs such as 3D LED tail lights. The interior is also simple, with a mainstream central control layout, such as a 10.9-inch instrument panel and a 12.9-inch central control screen, both of which support multiple theme switching and dual-screen linkage.
In addition, it has a separate air conditioning control panel that can control key functions through physical buttons such as lighting buttons.
As shown in the picture, the 3 and 9 o’clock positions of the steering wheel adopt a hollow design, and the shifter also uses a unique design. In addition, the new car is also equipped with front-row mobile phone wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, front-row seat heating and massage functions.
It provides a luggage compartment of 490 liters, which can be expanded to 1330 liters when the rear seats are folded down. There is an additional storage box below the luggage compartment board, and a lockable 50-liter storage area below the rear seats. This area can be used to store charging equipment and trouble kits, while also providing security for valuable items.
In terms of intelligent driving, the mass-produced version of the ID 2all will be equipped with a parking assist system with memory function, the latest travel assist system, and more.
It is reported that the mass-produced version of the ID 2all will be produced in Spain in 2025, along with closely related Cupra and Skoda models. This will be one of 10 electric cars that Volkswagen plans to launch by 2026, including the updated ID.3, long-wheelbase Volkswagen ID Buzz, ID.7 sedan, and compact SUV to be added to the ID.2.
