On May 17th, as today’s “One More Thing” at the 2023 Tesla Shareholders’ Meeting, Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled a silhouette of the next-generation platform model, which seems to be the previously rumored “Model 2/Model Q/ $25,000 car model”.
Musk also added that this car is not “designed”, but is in the “manufacturing” process. In other words, we will soon see the mass-produced version of this model.
He stated that Tesla is developing two new models, both of which will surpass any other products in the industry in terms of design and manufacturing technology, and will also be the killer weapon to take Tesla to the next level. It is expected that the annual production capacity of the two new models will exceed 5 million units.
He also revealed that the two models will be produced first at Tesla’s Mexico super factory and will be introduced to Tesla’s other factories worldwide after successful production. It is worth mentioning that Tesla previously mentioned that it would produce cheaper models at its Shanghai super factory in China and export them to the global market.
Reportedly, Tesla’s next-generation drive unit only requires half of the current factory space, reduces the demand for silicon carbide by 75%, reduces the demand for rare earths to zero, and reduces the overall cost by $1,000.
