On April 9th, Kyodo News reported that in Japan, where the popularity of pure electric vehicles is significantly behind other countries, there is a trend of cross-industry collaboration to develop EVs. The president of Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture between Sony and Honda, Izumi Kawanishi, emphasized that they will utilize their comprehensive technology and other strengths to “create new mobile tools”.
In January of this year, the joint venture between Sony and Honda, Sony Honda Mobility, made its debut at CES 2023 and officially named its new brand “Afeela”, showcasing the first electric concept car of Afeela at the same time.
The “AFEELA” plan will begin accepting reservations in the first half of 2025, and will officially go on sale the same year with the first deliveries expected in 2026. According to Kyodo News, Chuanxi stated, “We do not want to shift towards reducing specifications and engaging in price competition.”
However, the complete technical specifications of the model have not been publicly announced yet. The new car features a streamlined body curve and has abandoned traditional door handles and rearview mirrors, adopting electronic side mirrors instead, making the overall design more concise. The wheelbase is 3000 millimeters.
The front of the car is equipped with a unique Media Bar, which displays not only the logo but also various contents such as charging progress. The car will also support L2 level driving assistance for urban driving scenarios.
Inside and outside the vehicle will be equipped with a total of 45 cameras and sensors. The interior is equipped with an extra-long integrated central control screen, and will also integrate Sony’s entertainment functions such as movies, music, and games. It will be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon digital chassis and other mobile platforms, as well as Epic’s Unreal Engine 5.
