On April 25th, Scania and Swedish startup Northvolt announced that they established a partnership in 2017 to specifically develop traction batteries for commercial vehicles.
After years of research collaboration, both parties announced that they will start producing and commercializing a new type of traction battery later this year, with an estimated lifespan of 1.5 million kilometers (93205 miles).
According to reports, Scania officials stated that the battery unit voltage is 3.6V with a capacity of 157Ah, but did not disclose other characteristics and chemical components. Northvolt stated that compared to similar batteries, they actively use wind and hydro power in the production process, which can reduce carbon footprint by one-third.
