NIO now has 1,326 battery swap stations and is starting to install 500kW ultra-fast charging stations across China

On April 4th, NIO founder, chairman, and CEO William stated that NIO has currently established 1,326 battery swap stations and 52 destination charging routes in China, with users having completed nearly 20 million battery swaps.

William stated, “NIO not only has battery swap, but we are also very active in the layout of charging piles. The installation of 500kW ultra-fast charging piles has begun.”

NIO officially announced that NIO owners have completed 20 million battery swaps, providing more than 45,000 swaps daily, with an average of one vehicle departing from a swap station every 1.9 seconds. By accelerating the layout of 2,023 battery swap stations, NIO aims to provide users with even more convenient battery swap services by 2023.

Beforehand, NIO planned to build over 1700 battery swapping stations and more than 20,000 charging piles in China by 2023.

NIO’s third-generation battery swapping stations adopt a new three-position collaborative battery swapping model, which reduces swapping time by 20%. The battery compartment has increased to 21, and the station’s daily service capacity has reached 408 times, a 30% increase compared to the second-generation battery swapping station. According to the introduction, NIO’s third-generation battery swapping station uses the world’s first self-developed HPC bidirectional high-power liquid-cooled power module, with a maximum efficiency of 98% and a charging and discharging power of 62.5kW.

The NIO 500kW ultra-fast charging pile has a maximum power of 500kW and a maximum current of 660A, which can shorten the charging time. In terms of charging speed, the official claimed that it only takes 20 minutes for a 400V model and 12 minutes for an 800V model to charge from 10% to 80%.

In March 2023, NIO delivered 10,378 new vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 3.9%, including 3,203 high-end smart electric SUVs and 7,175 high-end smart electric cars. In the first quarter of 2023, NIO delivered a total of 31,041 new vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 20.5%. As of now, NIO has delivered a total of 320,597 new vehicles.
