On June 12th, NIO announced an adjustment to user benefits and prices across their entire vehicle lineup. They have cancelled the lifetime free battery replacement policy and have adjusted the vehicle warranty period from 10 years with no mileage limit to 6 years or 150,000 kilometers. Additionally, the prices for all new vehicles have been reduced by 30,000 yuan.
Specifically, the new car’s first owner’s usage rights have been adjusted to a 6-year or 150,000-kilometer full vehicle warranty, with a 10-year unlimited mileage warranty on the three-electric system; 6 years of free vehicle connectivity; and lifelong free roadside assistance.
In addition, free battery swapping and energy replenishment will no longer be a standard usage right, and new users can choose to charge at home or pay for energy replenishment at charging and swapping stations. NIO will launch flexible charging and swapping service packages in the future.
Existing users who have already taken delivery of their cars will maintain their usage rights, including lifelong free battery swapping. When purchasing a new NIO car, users can choose to transfer their original car’s usage rights to the new car or choose to give up their usage rights and deduct 30,000-50,000 yuan from the purchase price. NIO has over 330,000 existing users and will provide over 10 billion yuan in subsidies for this policy.
William Li, founder, chairman, and CEO of NIO, responded to this adjustment on the NIO community. Li Bin stated that this adjustment had been discussed internally for a long time and that some users’ opinions and suggestions had been heard. There were too many aspects to consider, and we were still pondering it until 3 o’clock today. Now is the most appropriate time to release it, but there may still be some areas where we have not fully considered, and it is impossible to satisfy everyone.
We noticed that in May of this year, NIO delivered 6,155 new cars, a decrease from the previous and same period. From January to May 2023, NIO delivered a total of 43,854 new cars, a year-on-year increase of 15.8%. As of the end of May, the cumulative delivery volume of new NIO cars is 333,410.
