Ford announced that the base model “Pro” of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck has increased in price from $55,974 to $59,974, not including the $1,895 shipping fee. This is $20,000 higher than its launch price in May 2021, and other models such as Lariat and Platinum have also increased to varying degrees.
It is reported that the price of the Lariat model has increased by $1,500 to $77,869, and the price of the Platinum model has increased by $1,200 to $99,969. (Both prices include shipping.) The only model that has not been affected is the slightly cheaper XLT model, which has not changed since it increased to $63,474 in December last year. However, this is still more than $10,000 higher than the initial price of $52,974.
Since the launch of this electric pickup truck, Ford has faced some challenges. The most noteworthy is a battery fire incident, which caused the company to suspend production and delivery of the vehicle and recall more than a dozen vehicles. In the company’s efforts to vigorously promote electrification and significantly reduce its workforce, such incidents have become particularly tricky.
According to CNBC, Ford has resumed production of the Lightning electric pickup truck, but this does not mean that the vehicle will be easier to buy. The company’s consumers and professional websites are warning that “due to strong demand, current models are no longer accepting retail orders.”
Ford’s competitors have not fared any better. The starting price of Rivian’s R1T is about $73,000, and the company tells customers who order now that they will have to wait until at least the fall of 2023 to receive the vehicle. Meanwhile, price changes and delays are possible. As for Tesla’s Cybertruck, its price and launch time are still a mystery.
