On May 31st, it was announced at the FF 91 & Faraday Future Future 2.0 Ultimate Launch Event that Faraday Future has officially released its flagship model FF91 and announced that the FF91 2.0 Futurist Alliance will be priced at $309,000. The first phase of delivery will begin on May 31st and will focus on delivering to the US market by the end of 2023.
FF91 made its debut in 2017 and initially promised to start production in 2018, but this plan was repeatedly postponed until it was finally realized five years later. The FF91 has impressive specifications with a 142 kWh battery that provides an EPA range of 381 miles (about 613.16 kilometers) and a range of over 800 km under CLTC standards. It has three motors with a maximum power of 1050 horsepower, can accelerate from 0-96 km/h in 2.27 seconds in rocket mode, has a top speed of 248 km/h, and supports a maximum charging power of 500A.
In terms of appearance, FF 91 2.0 continues the design of the prototype that was first unveiled in 2017, with a through-style LED headlight design. However, there are some subtle differences from the original prototype, and the letters FF are also rotated 45 degrees counterclockwise.
Faraday Future first introduced its “FF aiHyper 6×4 Architecture 2.0” during the live broadcast. The company stated that all of this is to embody the four pillars of development: full artificial intelligence, full super, full capability, and co-creation.
Faraday Future refers to its “co-creation platform” as “The Mission Farad,” which is essentially a referral program – recommending friends to download Faraday Future’s application will earn points (called Farads, named after the international unit of capacitance), which can be used to redeem rewards. In the future, Faraday Future seems to use this platform to collect feedback from customers on its vehicles and reward those who provide successful feedback/ideas with points. Faraday Future plans to hold a “co-creation day” on June 6th, when more details may be announced.
FF91 is equipped with a 27-inch rear screen (“the largest in-car display in the world”) and a “10G in-car network”, with each 5G antenna connected to a different mobile operator. Faraday Future mentioned that it is possible to live stream from the car and use AI-based contextual voice commands. The vehicle will also be equipped with an infrared camera on the driver’s seat for facial recognition, increasing safety. Faraday Future said that the vehicle’s AI technology will allow it to “know you better than you know yourself”.
FF91 is equipped with “Zero Gravity Seats” that can tilt up to 60º and enter “Spa Mode”. Faraday Future describes its vehicle as the standard for “ultimate AI technology luxury” and its target market is the “super high-end” market. Controversial founder of Faraday Future, Jia Yueting, has compared the luxury level of FF91 to that of Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, and Maybach.
Regarding autonomous driving, Faraday Future calls it “FF aiDriving” which includes functions such as AEB, ACC, LCC, intelligent parking, and intelligent valet parking. Among them, the L2 basic assisted driving delivery will be launched, and the rest will be upgraded through OTA in the future. In addition to announcing some of the supported and upcoming autonomous driving features, Faraday Future also stated that the FF91 will be capable of creating custom and proprietary maps.
As for the price, there are three versions available. The limited edition “FF 91 2.0 Futurist Alliance” is priced at $309,000 USD, the “FF 91 2.0 Futurist” is priced at $249,000 USD, and the official price information for the standard version FF 91 2.0 model has not yet been provided.
The FF 91 2.0 Alliance version is limited to 300 units worldwide and comes with exclusive customized founder signature edition, 1-on-1 private AI tuning, exclusive body colors: bright silver, matte silver, matte black, exclusive wheels, professional driver training, Apple Watch equipped with FF car control function, and the first 91 users will also receive an interstellar high-speed satellite communication package.
In the latest 2.0 version of the model, FF 91 will offer two versions: Track Edition and Balance Edition, with Track Edition delivered first.
Carsten Breitfeld, CEO of Faraday Future, said at the launch event that FF91 is a “global product” that will be sold in the United States, China, and Europe. He also said that the company has established a production base in Hanford, California, and plans to establish another production base in Nanjing, China. He also revealed that the company is working with a “global leading car manufacturer” to further expand its production capacity.
Faraday Future said that FF91 is a car “born for the future” that will bring users an unprecedented driving and riding experience. The company also said that it will continue to develop more models, including FF81 and FF71, to meet the needs of different markets and customers.
