On May 24th, BMW released the all-new 8th generation 5 Series in Europe, including both fuel-powered and pure electric i5 models. This is also BMW’s first release of a pure electric version of the 5 Series. The new car has undergone comprehensive changes in both exterior and interior, making it more fashionable and high-tech. The new car will be launched worldwide in October this year.
The new 5 Series adopts a larger double kidney grille in the front design, but not as exaggerated as the 7 Series. The headlight group also uses a new “double arrow” LED light strip, and the lower bumper also adds an aerodynamic kit. The grille materials of the fuel version and the pure electric version i5 are different to distinguish their identities. The side lines of the body are simple and smooth, and the door handles adopt an embedded design. The Hofmeister kink at the C-pillar triangle window is more prominent. The taillight group has also been redesigned with a more exquisite shape.
As for the interior, the new 5 series adopts a unified suspended curved screen (12.3-inch instrument panel + 14.9-inch central control screen), equipped with the iDrive8 car system, and reduces the number of physical buttons, changing to touch operation. The steering wheel has also been redesigned to a flat-bottomed style, and the overall style is closer to the latest 7 series. In terms of configuration, the new 5 series is expected to continue to provide front seat ventilation/heating/electric lumbar support, dual-zone/four-zone automatic air conditioning, Harman Kardon/Bao Hua Wei Jian sound system, cruise control/active cruise control, heads-up display system, wireless phone charging, WiFi hotspot, and offer a variety of packages for optional selection.
In terms of power, the all-new 5 Series will provide a variety of powertrain options and increase the proportion of electrified powertrain models. In addition to the conventional gasoline and diesel versions, there will also be mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric i5 versions. Among them, the all-electric i5 version will also launch a high-performance model i5 M60 tuned by M brand, and the first station wagon version i5 Touring.
