Porsche will release an Cayenne EV and another high-end electric SUV after the Macan EV

Porsche achieved record revenue in 2022 and announced that it would launch two new electric vehicles.

After the initial public offering of Porsche, it announced the launch of Macan EV. Since then, it has increased its investment in the electrification strategy, and has even become the largest car manufacturer in Europe by market value. After today’s financial report, Porsche has brought more good news.

Porsche announced that it had achieved a record profit in 2022 and planned to launch two new electric vehicles, one is the Cayenne EV, and the other is an unnamed SUV with a higher positioning.

Porsche’s new high-end EV SUV is “positioned higher than Cayenne”, which may be a larger and more luxurious product than Cayenne. It is expected to compete with the upcoming Land Rover electric vehicle, the electric Cadillac Cadillac or other large three-row electric SUVs.

Porsche’s specific EV product planning is as follows:

  • The number of new Cayenne plug-in models to be launched will increase to three;
  • Macan EV will be delivered in 2024;
  • The Porsche 718 will launch the EV version around 2025;
  • The EV version of Cayenne will come after the EV version of 718;
  • The new high-end EV SUV series is built based on the SSPPort platform.

AutoCar reported that Porsche’s new SUV will be a large seven-seat SUV, codenamed “K1”. Similar to the positioning of Cayenne, its audience is those who like super luxury and high-tech cross-border. It is expected to be listed in 2027, aiming at “providing strong performance and automatic driving” capability.

A source familiar with the early design scheme said that its conception and planning had been carried out for three years. It would be different from any previous Porsche mass production vehicle, with a length of more than 5 meters and a shape of “some cars and some crossover cars”.

Porsche CEO Oliver Bloom described this car with internal code K1 as “a very sporty interpretation of SUV”, and will adopt the form of a raised two-door coupe, “aiming to bring powerful performance and automatic driving through typical Porsche design, as well as a complete new experience in the car”.

He added: “We have therefore emphasized and strengthened our positioning of sports luxury goods. We have observed that the profit pool in this field is growing, especially in China and the United States.” And Porsche Vice President Lutz Meschke said that K1 is “the perfect match for the Chinese market”.

Due to the positioning and size of Cayenne and this new SUV, we can predict that its battery capacity will be much higher than Macan’s 100kWh.

In addition, for this kind of luxury model, we think that these two models may bring dual-motor all-wheel drive model options, and even the three-to-four-motor Turbo GT performance version. Of course, the new car pricing will also be eye-opening, and insiders also said that it will be far more than the current fuel version of Cayenne.

Insiders said that K1 will have a unique contour design, equipped with an ultra-short head in line with Porsche standards, a high-curvature windshield and a curved roof extending to the hatchback tailgate. It is said that in order to endow it with appropriate off-road capability, its body height and ground clearance will also be adjusted through the precision air suspension with multiple settings.

The PPE platform will be launched in 2024 through the electric Macan. It has been confirmed that the first generation of vehicles will use 800V electrical system, and will bring single motor (rear wheel drive) or dual motor configuration, with power up to 603bhp and 737lb ft.

The insider believes that K1 will use 920V electrical system, which is faster than Macan in charging speed, and will also provide oil cooling and cooling design for the motor. However, its battery is still in a confidential state, but its capacity should exceed 100kWh, and the WLTP range should exceed 435 miles

In other aspects, K1 plans to adopt new chassis technology, including the electronically controlled four-wheel steering system, which can provide a steering angle of 5 ° for the rear wheels to increase mobility when driving at low speeds in cities and towns, and provide greater flexibility when driving at high speeds. It is said that this function will be used in combination with the electronic differential to provide torque vectoring effect between each rear wheel.

According to the report, the interior of Porsche K1 will provide “a new experience, focusing on space”. This is due to the new key architecture of the Porsche SSP platform, such as the low cabin floor, ultra-thin battery pack, etc., and the rear footwell of the J1 platform similar to the existing Taycan.
