On June 13th, Toyota announced that they will start launching pure electric vehicles (EVs) with the next generation of batteries in the global market from 2026, which will be developed and manufactured by Toyota’s new department, the BEV factory, focusing on electric vehicles. The next-generation battery is still a high-performance lithium-ion battery that can be charged for 20 minutes and has a range of up to 1000 kilometers.

Toyota also stated that it is developing a method for mass-producing all-solid-state batteries for its electric vehicles, with the goal of commercializing the technology between 2027 and 2028. This new battery can be charged in 10 minutes and has a range of over 1200 kilometers.
Takero Kato, President of Toyota’s automotive division, stated in a demonstration video released yesterday that Toyota’s goal is to achieve a range of 1000 kilometers for electric vehicles. For comparison, the long-range version of the Tesla Model 3 has a range of nearly 700 kilometers.
Kato said, “What we want to achieve is to change the future with BEVs. We will launch electric vehicles using next-generation batteries worldwide and begin releasing a full range of products to the market in 2026.” He also introduced that the BEV factory was established in May of this year, with a goal of producing about 1.7 million vehicles by 2030.
Previously reported, Toyota plans to sell 1.5 million electric vehicles annually by 2026 and 3.5 million by 2030, accounting for one third of its global sales. In April, Toyota sold 8,584 electric vehicles (including Lexus) globally, with a single-month sales share exceeding 1% of the global market for the first time.
