On June 13th, Rolls-Royce announced that its first pure electric vehicle, Spectre, has completed global testing of 2.5 million kilometers, which is equivalent to more than 400 years of simulated lifespan. This luxury electric car will begin delivery to customers in the fourth quarter of this year, with a starting price of 5.75 million yuan in China.
Rolls-Royce CEO Müller-Otvos said: “In order to achieve the perfect final form, the Ghost has undergone our engineers’ ‘graduation exam’ and completed the most rigorous testing program in our brand’s history.”
During the testing process, the Ghost was subjected to extreme temperature differences ranging from minus 40 degrees Celsius to plus 50 degrees Celsius, including testing on ice, snow, deserts, and city roads. Test drivers also conducted various analyses based on customer daily habits, totaling over 50,000 hours of driving.
Rolls-Royce engineers conducted thousands of adjustments to the vehicle’s acoustic performance, steering precision, and charging time to ensure an excellent driving experience. IT Home noticed that test engineers also conducted “scenario-based” tests on the vehicle based on Rolls-Royce customer usage scenarios, such as whether the vehicle can provide a quiet phone call environment for users when the Ghost is parked next to a running helicopter engine.
Dr. Mihiar Ayoubi, Director of Engineering at Rolls-Royce, said: “Such an extraordinary vehicle requires an extraordinary testing plan, and I am extremely proud that we have completed the most challenging task in our brand’s history with the Ghost.”
The Ghost is one of the most innovative models in the history of the Rolls-Royce brand, with a maximum motor output power of 430 kW, peak torque of 900 Nm, a 106 kWh battery pack, and a WLTP range of 520 kilometers. The official 0-100 km/h acceleration time is about 4.5 seconds for this three-ton electric car, which features an elegant two-door design that showcases the luxury style of Rolls-Royce. According to the company’s previous plans, Rolls-Royce plans to stop producing new internal combustion engine cars by 2030.
